Meta announced a wave of advertising updates in October 2026, from a smarter AI assistant in Ads Manager to new brand ad formats and a default change that affects how people land after tapping your ads. Some are live now, some are still in testing. Here is a clear summary of what changed and what advertisers should do about it.

1. Product browsing is now on by default for existing ads

This is the update most advertisers need to act on. From October 28, 2026, Meta began turning on product browsing for ads that were already running on Facebook and Instagram. When someone taps an ad, Meta may now show an in-app view with product information and suggestions instead of sending the person straight to your website.

Meta says an experiment across advertisers showed an average lift in conversions, but your results may differ, especially if you generate leads rather than sell products online.

What to do:

  • Open your active ads and check the Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings. Product browsing can be switched on or off per ad.
  • If you run lead generation campaigns to a landing page or WhatsApp, check that traffic and form submissions have not dropped since late October.
  • For e-commerce brands, test it properly: compare purchases and revenue, not just clicks, with and without product browsing.

2. A smarter Meta AI business assistant in Ads Manager

At Advertising Week New York in early October, Meta announced a major upgrade to its AI business assistant:

  • Creative insights that explain which ads and elements are working.
  • More business context, such as previous quarter performance, seasonality and your stated goals.
  • Early agentic actions: through chat, the assistant can help create creative, adjust targeting and change budgets, with previews and approvals.
  • Strategy and brand voice uploads and scheduled reports and alerts, which are still in testing.

Our view: use the assistant for insights and drafts, but keep a person approving every budget and targeting change. Automation is fast, and it can also be fast at spending money on the wrong thing.

3. Ads Creative Studio and AI video from static images

Meta is expanding Ads Creative Studio, a workspace to understand creative performance and produce new variations faster. Alongside it, Advantage+ creative can now turn static images into video, and Meta described tools to change hooks, audio, length, captions, text overlays and end scenes. Meta is also making it easier to create video from product catalogues.

What to do: if you only run static image ads, test AI-generated video versions against your best performers. Check every generated video for accuracy, brand fit and compliance before it goes live, especially in regulated industries like real estate, healthcare and finance.

4. Customer Lifecycle Strategy for all advertisers

Meta said Customer Lifecycle Strategy is becoming available to all advertisers. It helps you separate new-customer acquisition from existing customers in a campaign, so your budget is not spent re-reaching people who have already bought.

What to do: upload clean customer lists, such as your CRM contacts or past buyers, so Meta can tell new and existing customers apart, then compare the cost of acquiring genuinely new customers.

5. New brand formats: Ads Super Burst and First Impression Ads

At its Brand Building Summit in mid-October, Meta introduced formats aimed at big brand moments:

  • Ads Super Burst lets brands reserve a 3 to 24-hour campaign window through Reach Planner, with estimated reach and pricing and category exclusivity. It is being rolled out in phases.
  • First Impression Ads give one brand per day the first ad position in the Facebook Feed. This is currently a test in the United States.
  • Reels Trending Ads, which place ads after popular Reels, are getting new topics, with custom audience exclusions planned.
  • Aggregated View Time, a new way to measure total time people spend with a brand across a week, is in early testing.

These are mainly for larger brands planning launches, festive sales or big announcements. Smaller advertisers can usually get better value from well-targeted performance campaigns.

6. More automation and AI audience tools

Meta also described AI audience discovery, where you describe your ideal customer in plain language and get suggested targeting, and an expanded Meta Ads MCP server that lets approved AI tools and agencies run more campaign workflows. Meta also announced checkout partnerships for its Business Agent on Messenger, including Shopify. Availability varies by feature and account.

What advertisers should do this month

  1. Audit product browsing settings on all active ads and decide per campaign whether to keep it on.
  2. Check tracking: make sure the Meta Pixel and Conversions API are recording leads and purchases correctly, so the new AI tools learn from the right signals.
  3. Test, don't switch: try AI video and the assistant on a small budget against your current best ads.
  4. Keep approvals human for budgets, targeting and anything published under your brand name.
  5. Judge by business results: cost per qualified lead, cost per sale and revenue, not reach or clicks.

Frequently asked questions

What is product browsing in Meta ads?

Product browsing is an in-app experience on Facebook and Instagram. When someone taps your ad, Meta may show product information and suggestions inside the app instead of sending them straight to your website. Meta switched it on by default for existing ads from October 28, 2026. You can turn it on or off per ad in Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings.

Is the Meta AI business assistant available to all advertisers?

Not every feature yet. Meta announced new creative insights, more business context and early agentic actions such as changing targeting and budgets through chat. Some parts, like uploading strategy documents and scheduled alerts, are still being tested. Check Ads Manager to see what is live in your account.

What is Meta Ads Super Burst?

Ads Super Burst lets brands book a reserved campaign window of 3 to 24 hours through Meta's Reach Planner, with estimated reach, pricing and category exclusivity. It is aimed at big brand moments such as launches and sales, and is being rolled out in phases.

Should small businesses change their Meta ads strategy because of these updates?

Not overnight. Review your destination settings for product browsing, test the new AI and video tools on a small budget, and keep measuring cost per lead or sale against your current campaigns. Let real results, not announcements, decide what you scale.

Sources: details are based on Meta's announcements as reported by PPC Land, ALM Corp and Campaigns of the World. Feature availability changes quickly and differs by account, so always check your own Ads Manager.

The short version: check your product browsing settings now, test Meta's new AI and video tools carefully, and keep humans in charge of budgets. Want a second pair of eyes on your Meta account? Our performance marketing team offers a free ads audit.
